BAGHDAD, Iraq, June 24 - Two marines were killed and 13 were wounded when a suicide car bomber plowed into their vehicle in Falluja, west of Baghdad, the military said today.
Three marines and a sailor who are believed to have been in the vehicle are listed as missing 'pending a positive identification,' a military statement said, raising the possibility that they might also be dead. No further elaboration was given of the attack, which occurred late Thursday.
Insurgent attacks have been rare in Falluja, 40 miles west of the capital, since an all-out American-led assault in November, reinforced by a heavy American and Iraqi security presence that is close to a lockdown.
At least 10 marines have been killed this month during operations against insurgents in the restive Anbar Province."
